The European project ENTICE has officially commenced its ambitious journey towards enhancing the understanding of trade Impacts on climate, industries, and the environment. The launch was marked by a successful kick-off meeting held in Athens on 21/1/25 and 22/1/25 and bringing together all partners from across Europe, as well as policy makers and academic experts.
Funded under the Horizon Europe program, the ENTICE project aims to explore the complex relationship between trade policies and climate action. By bridging gaps in scientific knowledge and providing innovative tools and models, ENTICE will contribute to developing sustainable trade practices that align with global climate goals. This project is especially timely and critical, given the international landscape and the ongoing discussions and developments surrounding trade and climate action.
The kick-off meeting in Athens served as a vital platform to discuss the project’s vision, objectives and methodology. All attendees engaged in fruitful discussions focused on the project’s core goals, which include:
- Enhancing the scientific knowledge of trade impacts on climate and environment while evaluating the interactions between trade, climate, and industrial (TCI) policies,
- Ensuring stakeholder inclusivity by directly addressing the needs of policymakers, industry leaders, and civil society through a participatory approach.
Developing improved modeling tools to analyze the trade-climate-industry nexus and support informed decision-making.
Next Steps
Building on the momentum of the kick-off meeting, the ENTICE consortium will embark on its first phase of activities, including data collection, stakeholder engagement and the development of advanced modeling frameworks. The project’s outcomes will be shared through a series of workshops, reports and dissemination events aimed at fostering broad collaboration and impact.
