The ENTICE project actively contributed to the IAM COMPACT Final Event "Responsive Science in Support of Climate Policy Making" held on August 29, 2025, at the Acropolis Museum in Athens. Consortium members took part in the dedicated session “Trade and Industry: How can Europe remain competitive towards net zero?”, offering insights into the intersections of trade, climate, and industrial policy during Europe’s green transition.
The session explored pressing questions about Europe’s industrial competitiveness, with discussions covering:
- The EU steel industry’s strategies for offshoring, reshoring, and relocation
- The role of renewable hydrogen trade in a global decarbonised energy system
- Geopolitically constrained pathways to achieving carbon neutrality
- The trade–climate–industry nexus in an increasingly fragmented global landscape
ENTICE also presented its new policy brief “Navigating the Nexus of Trade, Climate, and Industrial Policy”, which introduces a Trade–Climate–Industry (TCI) policy taxonomy. This framework aims to help policymakers better understand overlapping policy impacts, enhance data availability, and refine models to reflect the complexity of global value chains and evolving trade relationships.
The discussions highlighted the critical role of evidence-based research in shaping strategies that balance competitiveness, environmental goals, and economic resilience. ENTICE’s contributions emphasized the need for stronger connections between trade and climate policy to ensure industrial transformation pathways remain both ambitious and achievable.
